What is an internally rated fire door?

Internally rated fire doors are tested against fire safety regulations for use within a building to stop a fire from spreading between rooms.

They are most commonly used for flat entrance doors.

If a door is internally rated it means that the door has been tested for use within a building where the Fire door will not be exposed to the outdoor weather elements such as wind or rain.

Internally rated fire doors must not be used as the entrance door to a block of flats as they are not tested against the weather elements.

However they can be used as entrance doors to individual flats as long as there is another door between the fire door and the outside of the property.

If you are unsure what type of fire door you require for your property, it is best to ask your building regulations/local council before making a purchase.
